My brother Was in Vietnam in 1969 &1970.He came home Dec. 21st 1970. He came home a different man. He didn't say much about the war just that it was over. He served with the 101st airborne. I know that he had tough times at home, thinking about his friends he served with and they did not come home. He told me that no one knows or cares. My brother took his life Dec.18th 1975. We can not change the past, however we must not repeat it. VFW is making difference with their welcome home program. I hope your program (mission) stays on it's great thing your doing for veterans. My son in afghanistan now, he said he my be in June 2009 for good, I hope your program continues on, our country needs organizations like yours and that know what's its like to be in combat. Buy the way my son is with 101 airborne. I pray for my son and you men and women that have served. THINK YOU. I pray that I can call on the VFW in June. GOD BLESS you all.

I am a veteran and  I saw the program on news  channel 13, it was very moving. we see guard units coming and people standing the streets with with open arms. You hear of men and women coming home alone without honor and integrity so rightfully deserved, how do you think they feel?  I looked at the web site www.vfwwelcomehome.com. Dave & Lee you two should be (Honor with American highest honor).I m not a member of any veterans club, but seeing your program I now want to be a member.  I feel your program should be in very VFW Post in the U.S. Keep it up!

VFW Welcome Home

Our heroes are not movie stars or sports players - they are the men and women of the armed forces of our country.

As a side benefit of these welcome  home  ceremonies  we are finding out that we are healing hearts and changing lives.

TO:  Dear Mr. Green VFW Welcome Home:

January 15th, 2009

Eric Decorated Combat Veteran from California

Just a quick note to let you know this Welcome Home Vets Project is the smartest effort on behalf of returning (and returned) veterans I have ever seen.  I speak from experience when I tell you this.

I’ve been through years and years of counseling with zero results.  In some instances the sessions  are actually created more harm than good.  It wasn’t until one very wise counselor finally asked me the question “..What is the real problem, here?..”  I answered that I had never been thanked.  After a few moments he looked me in the eye and gave me the most heartfelt “Thank you.”  I think I’ve ever heard.  The flood gates finally opened, I blubbered for several minutes, and walked out of that session 6 inches off the ground!

The value of your Project—welcoming home vets and thanking them for their service—is

Immeasurable.  I sincerely hope that you are able to expand this program to one day include all vets from all wars.  In this you have my highest recommendation.
